We'd like to introduce you to Nathan!

How long have you been an instructor at My Motorcycle Training and what inspired you to become a motorcycle instructor?

Approximately 12 months now! I really enjoy motorcycling and instructing. It's something I want to do full time when I retire in a few years. It is a great feeling when you take a client from zero experience in the morning to a person who has passed their CBT.

What do you believe, sets My Motorcycle Training apart from other training schools?

The quality of resources such as bikes and equipment is always available. Instructors are all of the same professional mindset and we always put the client first

How do you tailor your bike training approach to suit different types of learners?

This greatly depends on what vehicle experience they have had, such as a car driver, re qualifying CBT or someone who is a complete novice. I like to think I match the delivery in such a way where every one feels included and those who are new to this journey feels very much a part of the lesson/ group and experience.

What common mistakes do new bike riders often make, and how do you help them overcome these?

It can be a combination of things, looking where you want to go, not using the clutch correctly or general confidence. I spend a little more time on a specific area ensuring they are confident and this normally does the trick.

What aspects of motorcycle training do you find most rewarding?

Being able to see a client progress throughout the day which culminates in a great road ride.

What advice would you give to someone who is nervous about learning to ride a motorcycle?

This is only natural, but all instructors are of a high quality and they will work at you pace to ensure you progress in the required way. This could be starting with a hour intro lesson before they commit to a CBT.

How do you stay updated with the latest in motorcycle training techniques and safety regulations?

I have a email reminder set up with the DVSA which assist greatly. I also purchase the recent DVSA literature and add any changes to my instructor notes.

What can new students expect during their first training session with you?

A positive inclusive attitude which tells them the day is all about them and we are here to progress them not trip them up.

How do you see motorcycle training evolving in the next few years?

I see more and more people taking to the road which will require further capacity for motorcycle training schools and instructors. Certain aspects of the road to becoming an instructor needs to be developed. It is important an instructor is competent in their delivery and knowledge but I do think the DVDA need to be more in line with instructors

Do you have a favourite motorcycle model? If so, what is it and why?

That’s a difficult one. I love the BMW GSA. It has a great riding position and large tank. But that can also be said for the Africa Twin. Anything with two wheels really!
